The following awards were presented to Aramark and our client partners:
2023 Sustained Excellence Award for Product Brand Owner and the second Partner of the Year Award for Energy Management
Samsung’s honors include their tenth Sustained Excellence Award for Product Brand Owner for their outstanding contributions in protecting the environment through the development of energy efficiency products and their first Sustained Excellence Award for Energy Management for their achievements in operational energy efficiency. Notably, Samsung is the only company to be honored with two 2023 Partner of the Year Awards. These recognitions demonstrate Samsung’s ongoing efforts to scale up energy efficiency across their products and their operations while making a significant impact in reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).
2022 AEE International Award – 2022 Corporate Energy Management Award – Samsung Electronics America
The Samsung Electronics America (Samsung) Energy Management Program was formed in 2019 to support the company’s growing sustainability culture and the desire to drive down operating costs and improve facility operations. Samsung saw a reduction in energy consumption by 3.7 million kBtus in 2021, or 4.4%. Since its inception, the Samsung Energy Program has captured energy savings of more than 19.4 million kBtus, which is approximately a 9.2% reduction in overall energy use. Since 2020, Samsung has procured 100% renewable energy for all facilities in the United States, Europe, and China. Samsung is committed to improving energy performance in its diverse portfolio of 41 buildings through the design and acquisition of energy-efficient spaces, operating and maintaining existing facilities in an energy-efficient manner, and engaging with the employee community to promote sustainability. Working with industry experts, Samsung developed innovative electricity procurement strategies that resulted in 5% to 69% financial savings depending on the region.
2022 AEE International Award – 2022 Instituational Energy Management Award – East Baton Rouge Parish Public Schools
East Baton Rouge Parish School System is the second-largest school district in Louisiana with an $11M utilities budget, formed the Energy Management Team in 2007 to reduce utility costs. This EBRPSS Energy Management Team developed a Comprehensive Energy Management Program covering 6.5M facility square feet on 95 campuses. Program objectives include managing energy and water utilities and engaging/educating all stakeholders to modify inefficient behaviors. Their Energy Management Program has achieved $1.1M+ in savings this year and $48M+ in savings since inception in 2007, along with a 33% reduction in energy use. A culture of energy awareness and conservation exists throughout the EBRPSS through student and teacher engagement and educational activities. The team’s passion and dedication has resulted in several awards and financial grants related to energy conservation and sustainability.

This award was presented to Samsung, Aramark’s client partner. Recognizing the Company’s outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through exceptional product innovations and achievements in operational energy efficiency. These 2022 recognitions demonstrate Samsung’s continued successes in energy efficiency from products to operations, building on the Company’s landmark accomplishments in 2021.
2022 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award
This award was presented to the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, Aramark’s client partner. Since developing the energy management program in 1999, EBRPSS has made several key accomplishments such as achieving ENERGY STAR certification at two schools in 2020, was declared the winner of the EPA’s Battle of the Buildings program and reduced total energy consumption by 33 percent. ENERGY STAR Award Winners lead their industries in the production, sale, and adoption of energy-efficient products, services, and strategies. These efforts are essential to fighting the climate crisis and protecting public health.
2022 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award
This award was presented to the Lewisville Independent School District (LISD), Aramark’s client partner. “Lewisville Independent School District is honored to be recognized by ENERGY STAR for the second year in a row for its ongoing efforts in reducing energy consumption,” Jason Hughes, LISD’s Executive Director of Facilities said. “Resource Stewardship is one of LISD’s four cornerstone’s that frame the vision for the district and that responsibility is taken very seriously. I am very proud of the efforts of the team and the program that has been created.”
2021 Connecticut Building Congress Project Team Award
The Westport Weston Family Y Phase 2 Project won First Place for a Civic (Large) Project. Aramark supported the project with Commissioning Services. It’s through mutual respect and team work that these teams and projects stand out from the rest.
2021 AEE International Award – 2021 Institutional Energy Management Award – Baylor University Energy Management Team
The Baylor University Energy Management Team (Energy Team) was formed in 2001 to support the changing culture and focus on the new campus infrastructure expansion. The comprehensive energy program embarked on a quest to improve facility operations, campus engagement and utility savings projects on both the energy supply and demand opportunities. Implementing many energy industry proven saving methods throughout the years, Baylor University saw a reduction in electrical consumption by 17 million kWh in 2020. Since its inception, the Baylor Energy Team has captured energy savings of more than $13 million dollars.
2021 AEE International Award – Young Energy Professional of the Year
Anthony Scaparra, CEM, manages the Lewisville Texas Independent School District’s Comprehensive Energy Efficiency Program. LISD spans over 127 square miles, contains over 100 facilities, and totals 9.7 million square feet of conditioned space, making it one of the largest K-12 districts in the state of Texas. Under his leadership, the Program achieved 29.4% in energy savings and over $3 million in savings for the year 2020.
2021 AEE Region II Corporate Energy Management Award – Aramark Facility Services
The Aramark Facilities Services Team has been supporting the Florida State Hospital through its energy conservation program for 28 years. The facility located in Chattahoochee, Florida, sits on over 600 acres with more than 100+ buildings covering just over 1.9 million square feet. In the fiscal year of 1993-1994, Florida State Hospital consumed 459,434 MMBTU’s of fossil fuel and 31,405,980 KWH in electricity. The Facilities Team’s focus was to reduce unnecessary steam usage. The result of these energy measures was a reduction in fossil fuel consumption of 93%, with a simultaneous reduction in electrical consumption of 35%. Over the course of Aramark’s tenure there has been a total energy cost savings of $59 million dollars.

2021 ENERGY STAR Corporate Commitment Award
This award was presented to Samsung, Aramark’s client partner. Samsung is the first company in nine years to receive the ENERGY STAR Corporate Commitment Award for climate efforts from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Samsung received this prestigious recognition for its longstanding and multifaceted commitment to demonstrating leadership and partnership with ENERGY STAR and mitigating climate change through both product and operational efficiency.

This award was presented to the East Baton Rouge Parish School System, Aramark’s client partner. Each year, the ENERGY STAR program honors a group of businesses and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to protecting the environment through superior energy achievements. ENERGY STAR Award Winners lead their industries in the production, sale, and adoption of energy-efficient products, services, and strategies. These efforts are essential to fighting the climate crisis and protecting public health.
2021 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award
This award was presented to the Lewisville Independent School District, Aramark’s client partner. “ENERGY STAR award-winning partners are showing the world that delivering real climate solutions makes good business sense and promotes job growth,” said EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan. “Many of them have been doing it for years, inspiring all of us who are committed to tackling the climate crisis and leading the way to a clean energy economy.” Winners are selected from a network of thousands of ENERGY STAR partners.
2020 AEE Region II Institutional Energy Management Award
This award was presented to Morehouse College, Aramark’s client partner. The College has made significant strides by developing an energy management policy, modernizing building systems, reducing their carbon footprint, lowering energy consumption, educating the operations staff and campus community to sustain its energy efficiency goals. Region II consists of 8 states: Alabama, Washington DC, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.
2020 AEE’s Region IV Energy Engineer of the Year Award
Aramark’s Brian Birch was selected to receive AEE’s 2020 Region IV Energy Engineer of the Year Award. Brian has overseen the implementation of a host of energy conservation projects, and numerous energy audits that have emphasized operational improvements, including the optimization of building automation systems, HVAC scheduling, enhanced maintenance, and sustainable practices. He is an effective mentor to his organization’s energy managers.
2020 AEE Region IV Institutional Energy Management Award
This award was presented to East Baton Rouge Parish Schools, Aramark’s client partner. The AEE Award was presented to an institution that is the best in that region for Energy Management. The Aramark Energy management team supporting EBRPSS was formed in 2007 and has achieved savings in excess of $42M along with 32% reduction in energy use. A culture of energy awareness and conservation was created throughout the EBRPSS through student and teacher engagement and educational activities. Region IV consists of 13 states: Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming.

This award is given to a corporation that is considered the best in that region for Energy Management. Region IV consists of 13 states: Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming.
2019 AEE’s Region IV Energy Professional Development Award
Aramark’s Brian Birch was selected to receive AEE’s 2019 Region IV Energy Professional Development Award. Each year AEE takes great satisfaction in seeking out the good work that is being done in energy and in recognizing those individuals that stand out from the rest.
2019 AEE’s International Institutional Energy Management Award
This award was presented to Lewisville Independent School District, Aramark’s client partner, who was recognized for their the outstanding accomplishments in developing, organizing, managing and implementing its comprehensive energy management program. Since 2008, the district’s energy use has been reduced by more than 20 percent.
2019 AEE New York Chapter Award – 2019 Energy Professional of the Year
Aramark’s John Mikullitz was honored for his dedication and management of Energy Efficiency programs for Aramark clients in New York State, New York City and energy clients throughout the country.
2019 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Committee on the Environment (COTE) Top Ten Award
The Aramark Engineering Solutions (ES) team played a significant role in securing this award for one of our own clients. St. Patrick’s Cathedral, a historic religious monument in Manhattan. Aramark served as the official Commissioning Agent for St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Our efforts focused on updating the cathedral’s geothermal and HVAC systems and ensuring their efficient operations.
2018 AEE Regional IV Young Energy Professional of the Year
Highlighting Aramark EAS Energy Manager Jeremy Nelson accepting his 2018 Association of Energy Engineers Award for Young Energy Professional of the Year. Jeremy manages the Lewisville Independent School District’s Comprehensive Energy Efficiency Program and is a leader in a variety of Texas Engineering and Energy Associations. His dedication to service excellence and collaboration has enabled Jeremy to thrive as a leader and mentor for energy associates and students in Texas.
2019 and 2017 Green Ribbon School
Our client partner, East Baton Rouge Parish School District, and the Brookstown Middle School was named a U.S. Department of Education 2019 Green Ribbon School. This is the fourth Green Ribbon School in the district. It was the only Louisiana school selected in 2019, and one of only 35 schools in the US that were honored in 2019. The Green Ribbon Recognition awards schools that reduce environmental impact and costs, improve the health and wellness of schools, students and staff, and provide effective environmental and sustainability education.
In 2017, the Mayfair Laboratory School of the East Baton Rouge Parish School District was also honored as a Green Ribbon Schools Award Winner

Building Management System Team
Building systems are getting smarter and more complicated as technology continues to advance. Today’s technology allows a building to regulate heating and cooling, establish lighting and space temperature schedules based on building use and occupancy, identify who and when someone is entering and leaving a building, and coordinate facility functions that collaborate to optimize building operations and efficiencies. It is important to understand that further advanced building technology requires the necessary BMS knowledge and experience to develop system commands that optimize building operations and operate it with greater efficiency.
The Aramark Building Management System (BMS) Team was established in 2015 with that premise in mind. Its first mission was to identify and implement opportunities to achieve greater energy efficiency while improving the overall quality of the indoor learning environment for the City University of New York (CUNY) in response to the New York City Mayors Local Law 87. The New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services funded this initiative. This was accomplished by targeting the various campus’ Building Management Systems (BMS) and performing ‘Deep Dives’ into how these systems were being operated, and analyzing the installed programming algorithms. This is a unique approach, and exceeds the level of scrutiny that most BMS vendors will provide.
Aramark collaborates with the client to create and implement building system optimization initiatives that yield high Return on Investments (ROI) coupled with minimal Payback –typically 2 years or less.

An Aramark TechChat webinar is part of an interactive information series designed for our existing clients and to provide innovative service solutions for new client partners. Members of the Aramark Engineering Solutions team developed and presented a webinar that explored ventilation, filtration and air purification options and a webinar that highlighted UV-C Light and SARS-CoV-2. This TechChat was presented in January 2021. “Practical HVAC Strategies in the Era of COVID-19 – 8 Myths Busted,” was delivered by industry-leading expert, Dr. Marwa Zaatari, who discussed the current cost-effective strategies to provide high-quality indoor environments in fighting a pandemic while considering a future with aggressive carbon reduction targets.
The newest TechChat webinar was presented in July 2021. Over a year after the world went into lockdown around the health pandemic, improved indoor technology is being employed at schools, offices and other facilities. Brian Lee, Vice President of Engineering Solutions, and Scott Jenkins, Executive Vice President and Strategic Partnership of Plan LED explore the application of Upper Room Germicidal Ultraviolet (GUV) UV-C Disinfection.

2017 National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) Conference
McDaniel College faced aging infrastructure, extensive deferred maintenance, and funding limitations but recognized the opportunity to address the situation through strategic investments in the infrastructure that most impacted comfort, operational efficiency and energy efficiency. Targeting the replacement of outdated and non-operational systems first while also focusing on the facilities that had the greatest impact on recognized comfort problems, McDaniel was able to eliminate critical deferred maintenance problems while also producing benefit recognized by the campus community.
By taking an operational approach to prioritizing capital investment on its energy delivery, McDaniel realized an action plan resulting in updated campus infrastructure systems that more cost-effectively meets the needs of its buildings, while also using less energy and reducing environmental impact. Revamping campus infrastructure delivered energy savings, phased out deferred maintenance, improved comfort and increased service reliability.
